Learning a few Lithuanian phrases proved to be very helpful!
Two Norwegian midwifery students spent two weeks at Kaunas Clinics in Lithuania, gaining valuable birth practice experience. They were warmly welcomed by midwives who involved them in births from the first day and allowed them to observe both routine consultations and emergency care. The students noted the strong interdisciplinary collaboration and gained insight into how maternity services are organized in Lithuania. Although language barriers occasionally limited participation, learning some Lithuanian phrases helped bridge communication gaps. The exchange was an enriching professional and personal experience, offering meaningful reflections on midwifery values and practice. They highly recommend exchange opportunities for broadening perspectives and enhancing professional growth.
